This year I took a cue from my colleague Richard Aaron and decided to have a weekly Technique Class for my students. It has been EYE-OPENING for all involved to do this on a regular basis, and in front of a group of peers. (Think: standing up in front of your colleagues and laying down scales, arpeggios, spiccato, fingered octaves) Stay tuned for some anecdotes and lessons learned. Let's just say for now, double stops are happening.
As Election Day draws near, I remember the time last March when I went on "tour" with 5 wonderful violin students to perform in Washington DC at THE SUPREME COURT. Yes, the real one. Sonya Sotomayor was in the house, as was RBG, who passed by our rehearsal of Sarasate's Navarra, which we were to perform that evening for the Sphinx Medal of Excellence ceremony for which I was honored to receive the prestigious award. These kids played great and had the privilege of collaborating with renowned pianist Rohan De Silva! Thank you to Harry and Adam for nicknaming this trip the "Belen Tour of Justice".
